The One Simple Thing This Supermarket Chain Is Doing About Loneliness

The Dutch supermarket chain, Jumbo, announced a first of its kind last month.

It launched 200 chat checkouts (‘kletskassa’s’) to help combat a rise in loneliness, considering 47% of the Dutch felt lonely in 2020, compared to 43% in 2016.

A ‘kletskassa’ is different from a regular check out in that cashiers don’t rush…
